The (AQT) Appalachian Quilt Trail evolved from the Not Barn Yesterday program that began with two barn murals, one in Washburn, Grainger County and the other in Hancock County. The idea was developed into the Appalachian Quilt Trail, modeled after a quilt trail of barns in Ohio. Today the Appalachian Quilt Trail displays quilt squares on hundreds of barns and businesses throughout Middle and Upper East Tennessee. The squares draw folks off the beaten path and also give an extra reason to polish up and preserve quaint old barns that may have fallen to disuse.
