IV. Unmanaged Recreation
June 26 2008
There's nothing else quite like getting out of doors and enjoying fresh air, sunshine, and open space to refresh the mind and restore the spirit. Communing with nature is most effective when our awareness of the nature world is heightened. At these times we are more likely to be careful of the impact of our presence, however, when we're out there having a great time with friends or for thrills, we may forget to Leave No Trace. Off highway vehicles, hiking, and motorboats may damage the land.
The Leave No Trace principles serve as a useful guideline to avoid inadvertently causing harm. Unmanaged recreation can pose a serious threat to the healthy balance of an ecosystem. Erosion, the spread of invasive species, disturbance to wildlife, destruction of wildlife habitat, and risks to public safety can result. Click below to learn how to Leave No Trace.
