Making a Difference on Make a Difference Day 2008
November 18 2008
Can one person make a difference in one day? Absolutely! So just imagine what a difference 150 people can make in a day!
AmeriCorps members worked in teams on community projects in Hancock, Hawkins, Claiborne and Grainger Counties. In Sneedville they painted the historic old Jail and cleaned sorted and organized shelves and inventory at the new Overhome Clothing Center. In Kyles Ford they cleaned out the old Kyles Ford Elementary School (filling up an entire dumpster!) and scraped windows, cleared trails, trimmed trees and cleaned out an old barn at the Clinch River Conservation Center.
AmeriCorps is a national and community service program that engages Americans in service to meet critical needs in education, the environment, public safety, homeland security, and other areas. In return for their service, AmeriCorps members receive an AmeriCorps Education Award that they can use to pay for college or to pay back
qualified student loans.
